W1CPR Amateur Radio

The SKYWARN Program is a volunteer program to train weather spotters on how to identify and report critical weather incidents to their local NWS forecast office.  It is run by the National Oceanic and atmospheric Administration (NOAA) It is part of the National Weather Service's (NWS) severe weather spotting program. The Program has trained nearly 300,00 citizen volunteers nationwide. The program was formed in the late 1960's and helps support the NWS primary mission of protecting life and property through the issuance of severe weather warnings.  The trained and dedicated spotters help keep their communities safe by reporting severe weather reports to their local NWS forecast office

Each of the 122 NWS forecast office conducts yearly training for their county wide area (CWA) at no charge for interested individuals.  Check the link above by state to find the current scheduled SKYWARN training in your area.

Although the program is widely associated with amateur 'HAM' radio operators, the program is open to any interested persons with a desire to help their family, friends and community.
